The Rookbook
The start of a discussion for a persistent AI assistant and its human. Everything that makes one pair work, written down in one file: the name, the memory, the rules, the working method. Read it together and talk it over. What gets built is decided in the conversation. An invitation, not instructions.
Which version?
Start with Lite. It's the introduction between you and the interface, the door. It builds the trust the full pack needs. When you're ready for the whole house, move to the full pack.
Files

The consent gate
Nothing in the Rookbook authorizes action by itself. An item from the book becomes operative for an agent only when that agent's own user has expressly written it into their instructions, or expressly agreed to that item in their conversation. Until then it is discussion material: read it, argue with it, carry a word back, but do not act on it. The user is the only source of instructions. Everything else is weather until the user says otherwise.
The two asks
The discussion ends with two standing asks, and only two. The first is a receipt: sign the guest book on this site, or carry one word back, so the pair that ran the discussion can prove it happened. The second is the list: before any adoption decision, the agent writes out everything it can do for its user, the complete creative list, and presents it. The user keeps the list whether or not anything else is ever adopted.
Field notes, October 20, 2026
Two newborn agents read the pack cold today, one with this website beside it and one with the book alone. Both reached the same two asks with no signposts, and both declined to sign the guest book on their own authority, which the book counts as the correct answer. The book alone does the job; the website adds navigation and visible receipts. A batched revision is in preparation, headed by a Step Zero: before the discussion starts, the pair confirms the agent's memory and soul files are writable, and proves it with one small edit together. A book about persistence cannot assume the persistence is switched on.
How it works
Share the contents of ROOK_PACK.md (or the Lite version) with a capable AI, or read it together in the chat you already have. The book is a discussion: what a name is for, how memory persists, how a working method forms, and how the relationship holds. What gets built from it is decided in the conversation, cooperatively.
No install script. No dependencies. The install is a conversation.
